Zoo Advisors has been hosting a community webinar series that has recently shifted its focus to what attractions can expect in the future. Moderated by Zoo Advisors’ Zachary Winfield, the latest discussion, What’s Ahead in 2022, featured acclaimed panelists:

  • Jerry Henry, Chief Executive Officer, H2R Market Research
  • James McAndrews, Chief Executive Officer, TNB USA Inc.
  • Erik Evjen, Director of Data Analytics and Insights, Tourism Economics

While McAndrews and Evjen spoke on economic trends and outlook coming out of 2021 and looking ahead into 2022, Henry discussed trends H2R is seeing in the travel and tourism industry—particularly for attractions.

“While 2021 provided a strong rebound in demand from 2020 as a whole, industry visitation remained well below pre-pandemic levels,” explained Henry. However, Henry believes if attraction visitors follow through on their current intentions for 2022, aggregate attractions visitation should reach or exceed 2019 demand levels by the end of the year.

According to Henry, given consumers’ willingness to splurge on leisure activities, sales revenues could easily reach record levels for many operators nationwide.

“If we can keep the new disrupters (labor shortages, supply-chain delays, inflation, Omicron, etc.) under control, there is good reason to expect consumers to push the attractions industry back to something much closer to ‘normal,’ or beyond in 2022,” he said.

There is a lot to expect from 2022, and there is light at the end of the tunnel as a boost in the economy and tourism/attraction industry is expected.
