Trends That Will Shape Travel in 2022

As the travel industry continues to recover from the pandemic, Google has identified three key areas that will grow in importance over the next year.

  1. Rise in “life moments.” Heading into 2022, travel will become more meaningful, with a rise in “life moments” that were put on hold during the pandemic. According to a survey conducted by Ipsos, 78% will consider travel related to a life moment within the next two years.
  2. Traveling becoming more inclusive. According to a report from Google/Storyline Strategies, travelers value cultural engagement as a key deciding factor for destinations. Nearly nine in ten (86%) travelers of color have traveled abroad in pursuit of this goal.
  3. Travel becoming more purposeful. According to Ipsos, environmental considerations are important to potential travelers. More than 50% of travelers say that sustainable and environmentally friendly options are important when deciding on a brand.
