The past year has been like a roller coaster for the hospitality industry. While vaccines are readily available and travel is nearing pre-pandemic levels, staffing and supply shortages are causing new problems for the industry. Here’s an article round up on the current state of the hospitality industry – specifically the lodging sector.

  1.  According to June 2021 data from STR, the U.S. hotel industry recorded its highest monthly occupancy and revenue per available room (RevPAR) since October 2019. Additionally, the average daily rate (ADR) was the highest for any month since February of 2020. Read more.
  2. The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) recently released their “Midyear State of the Hotel Industry” report, finding that 1 in 5 (nearly 500,000 total) direct hotel operations jobs lost during the pandemic will not be returning by the end of the year. View more findings here.
  3. U.S. lodging demand is forecasted to return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2023, an improvement from original forecasts due to better than expected Q1 and Q2 lodging performance this year. Read more.
