A new study published by The Vacationer expects Labor Day weekend to have the highest rates of travel so far this year, exceeding the number of travelers who took advantage of the Fourth of July weekend to travel.

The Vacationer’s survey suggests that 137 million Americans (53%) plan to travel over the Labor Day holiday, but many of those (37%) plan to travel by car, with only 12% planning to travel by plane. Despite the desire and the willingness to travel, Americans still have concerns about the delta variant – 48% believe it is a slight concern, 28% believe it is a big concern and just under 25% do not believe it is a problem at all regarding Labor Day weekend travel plans. Labor Day, then, should be a strong indicator of whether or not the delta variant will slow down travel.

While AAA did not release an official travel forecast for Labor Day, experts with the organization also anticipate high travel numbers exceeding July 4th figures.
