High Gas Prices Could Hinder Summer Travel

Almost 70% of people plan to travel this summer, but gas prices and inflation could stand in the way. A survey conducted by the American Hotel and Lodging Association said that over half of the people surveyed said they were likely to take fewer and shorter trips due to high gas prices. The Midwest might be getting hit the hardest with high gas prices due to spacing between cities, which means a further distance to travel.

Also affecting travel could be airfare and if travelers are willing to pay more to fly. Airfare had a 18.6% jump in April, the highest jump on record to date. The price of oil is not the only reason airfare is up. Contributing to high fares is due to how much carriers are flying. Many companies have had to limit the amount of flights due to staffing shortages, making prices rise.
