As governments across the globe begin loosening restrictions and accept that COVID-19 must be a part of everyday life, the travel industry is hopeful that this is the year that travel will rebound to pre-pandemic levels. While there is still quite a bit of uncertainty that remains, the industry is seeing a strong desire to travel.

Here are some trends you can expect to see as consumers move forward with travel this spring.

  • Air Travel. Airlines and airports will be enforcing fewer restrictions this year, but for now the masks must stay on.
  • Lodging. Urban hotels will be competing with rural lodging options more heavily this year. Many plan to do so by utilizing robots to become more efficient and sustainable.
  • Rental Cars. While rental vehicles were found to be scarce and overpriced in 2021, it looks like it will be even worse in 2022.
  • Urban Destinations. After nearly two years of avoiding urban centers, city travel is back.
  • Resorts. A new kind of domestic resort is on the horizon—an almost all-inclusive model that takes the guesswork out of where to eat and what to do, but not what to drink.
  • Family Travel. Many parents are seeking travel experiences with an educational twist to combat the impact the pandemic has had on the classroom.
  • Smaller cruises to more luxurious or harder to get to destinations will become the hype for avid cruise fans.
