Americans across the country have dealt with staffing shortages this past year in every scope. The travel and tourism industry has been hit hard, with 1 in every 18 travel and tourism jobs vacant in the first half of 2022. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) believes that 412,000 industry jobs will remain unfilled the rest of the year in the United States, with sightseeing transportation, accommodation and recreation are the most serious shortages this year.

“As the U.S. pushes full steam ahead toward a solid recovery for Travel & Tourism, a lack of qualified, available talent remains a major concern for the sector. This is especially true given the sudden spike in international visitors following the removal of COVID tests for inbound travelers,” WTTC President Julia Simpson said.

WTTC is forecasting a better outlook for 2023 if government officials work to increase the availability of eligible workers and help adapt career opportunities to appeal to top talent. If suitable measures are introduced, WTTC officials believe the sector will surpass pre-pandemic levels.
