Deloitte Insights recently released their summer travel research report, finding that today’s leisure traveler is keen but cautious. After more than a year living with the threat of COVID-19 and under various restrictions to travel and nearly all activities, Americans are looking to their summer vacations to offer a break, an adventure or an opportunity to connect with loved ones. Americans of all ages and incomes are making travel plans and spending money to make the most of the summer season. However, Americans are not throwing caution to the wind, as health and safety remains the biggest concern despite rising vaccination rates and easing restrictions.

Deloitte’s report revealed that this caution is influencing travel decisions such as opting for direct flights, choosing destinations with a variety of outdoor attractions and experiences, lodging in either private accommodations or hotels with enhanced safety measures and waiting to travel until most party members are vaccinated. Additionally, nearly six in ten Americans indicating that they plan to travel this summer also indicated that they have not fully booked their trips due to uncertainty.
