McDonald’s recently announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with IBM to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology that will help the fast-food chain automate its drive-thru lanes. In fact, the technology was tested at a handful of Chicago restaurants this past summer and showed “substantial benefits” to both customers and employees alike.

As part of the deal, IBM will acquire McD Tech Labs, formerly known as Apprente before McDonald’s acquired it in 2019. IBM’s role will be to take what McDonald’s started in-house and scale it. (CNBC, 10.28.21)
