Minnesota Is Targeting Canadian Tourists

The U.S. recently lifted COVID-era restrictions on non-essential international travel for vaccinated foreigners, including Minnesota’s border with Canada. Now, Minnesota is looking to attract visitors from its neighbor to the north with a new marketing push.

Explore Minnesota is targeting residents of Thunder Bay and Winnipeg with billboards, newspaper inserts and ads on both social media and Google searches. Some businesses are offering specials to also help entice Canadian tourists.

In 2019, more than 500,000 Canadian tourists visited Minnesota, spending roughly $175 million. A return to those levels could boost the state’s tourism and hospitality sector, which has been struggling during the pandemic and border restrictions. Read more.
